Personal notes

L/Sgt Hartley was found in 1984 together with another soldier (Alfred E. Johnson) west of the ter Horst family house in a field. The other soldier could be identified but after 5 years Hartley was intered on the Oosterbeek War Cemetery as an unknown soldier in 1989. In 2005 the BIDKL picked up his case again and found a dental record match identifying Edward Hartley. His family has meanwhile been found, his daughter Patricia who was born 1 month after her father was killed. On June 16, 2006 a ceremony was held and his gravestone was put in place. A photo album of this ceremony is available above as external reference.
