To honour, remember and learn

Keeping alive the memory of Operation Market-Garden and drawing attention to the consequences of the operation is the focus of the Roll of Honour: The Digital Monument. We realise this by reaching as large an audience as possible worldwide. We do this, amongst others by means of the internet website: www.marketgarden.com

For over 25 years, the Market Garden Foundation meticulously collected, curated and preserved thousands of photographs, extracts of film, maps, schemes, stories and other historical items. The Digital Monument holds over 3.363 airborne soldiers and 640 civilians who were killed in the operation, are perusable on-line and carefully exhibits all the knowledge obtained through private persons, professionals, volunteers and government officials.

With Operation Market-Garden as an example, the foundation tries to make people of all ages aware of the fact that freedom and democracy should not be taken for granted. A great many individuals have paid the ultimate sacrifice to give us the possibility to live in freedom. We should wonder whether we fully realise and deserve this. The Digital Monument serves as documentation, but also as a symbol, perpetually reminding us of one of the greatest goods in human life.

The organisation

The people behind the Digital Monument are part of the Market Garden Foundation. Since 1994, the Foundation held the website www.marketgarden.com, and continuously worked on the availability of the information online digitally.
