Capt. Peter Chard tried to knock out a flame-thrower tank near Koude Herberg area at Oosterbeek. Unfortunatly he was caught by the flame-thrower and was set alight. He ran back along the road with his clothes in flames, shouting for someone to shoot him to end his agony. Instead he was rolltemped in the sand to put out the flames. Capt. Chart suffered for three more weeks from his wounds and then died in a hospital at Apeldoorn.
