This database has been dedicated to the twin brothers Claude and Thomas Gronert. The twin brothers are members of 6 Platoon, B Company 2 Battalion and as they approach the \\'Station Oosterbeek Laag\\' shortly after the Germans blew up the railway bridge, there is enemy sniper fire from the station and surrounding buildings. The order is given to secure the area, to enable other troops, also on their way to Arnhem Bridge, to move safely forward. When they crawl along the railway station, they come again under sniper fire and they try to deal with them. Then, suddenly, a party of 10- to 15 SS men of the Frundsberg Division are moving in from the north; they appear to be on their way to the railway bridge to defend it. These Germans see and hear the firing and immediately put their MG-42 machine guns and join the fighting. The Britons are completely surprised and are now under fire from all directions, and there is no cover for them. Tommy Gronert is hit in his mouth and cries out for help. Another Englishman is on fire because of a phosphor grenade in his pocket is hit by enemy fire.. Together with other men, Lieutenant Cane lies badly wounded, on and around the railway line. When Claude hears his brother Tommy crying for help, he runs from the rear to get through to his brother Tommy. The Britons now fire smoke grenades to enable the men to withdraw. When the German have retreaded and the smoke has cleared, Thomas and Claude, lying side by side, are found by their friend Jack Edwards. Claude was hit by three bullets in the head.
