Signalman Stewart (Scotty) was hit by a sniper near the Hartenstein Hotel and died in the Elisabeth Hospital. Stewart was awarded the DCM in Palermo (Italy) where he managed to get in a Gestapo building and steal important documents and listening to the signals transmitted from the Gestapo to other units. He then transmitted all important information to the troops and got out safely. With this important information the allied troops had a great advantage when taking the city of Palermo. | |
