Adolf Bleichroder was a Jewish refugee born in Hamburg. Came to UK in 1936, interned 1940, deported to Australia on Dunera, joined 229 coy. Pioneer Corps in January 1942 at Ilfracombe, then Paratroops fighting in North Africa and Italy before Arnhem. Veteran Harry Ford was with Bleach as they tried to cross the Rhine. Ford was badly wounded in the neck and passed out. Bleach had said he would try to escape into the marshes. When he came to, Ford was a POW and never saw Bleach again. Adolf Bleichroder served as Timothy Alexander Bleach because of his Jewish identity. He is still missing and is named on the wall of the missing Memorial at Groesbeek.
