Driver George Woodcock served as Air Despatcher in Dakota KG 399. This aircraft was on a re-suply mission for 1st Airborne Division and took of from Blakehill Farm Airfield on the 21st of September. It dropped it\\'s load over de DZ but was hit by AA fire. The aircraft was on fire and eventually crashed near a powdermill at Arendonk, Belgium. The Pilot; Flying Officer Ades and Co Pilot; Flight Sergeant Dorville were killed during the crash. The other 6 men (2 Air Crew and 4 Air Despatchers) in the aircraft escaped by parachute. The four Air Despatchers jumped from only 300 feet and miraculously survived the landing, some of them suffering from broken legs. They were all captured immediatly after landing and taken to POW camps. Driver Woodcock died in the POW camp he was in on February 27, 1945.
